Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė is a digital artist and experimental architect based in Lithuania. Her work focuses on the decorative arts of architectonics, where she celebrates and employs the forms, shapes and textures found in the intricate and complex nature of things. Goal of her practice is to stimulate the arts of noticing and visualise the unimagined reality. She is a creator of Plantasia Lab, where she designs digital plants using the intuitive imagination of technology.
Q&A
How does your upbringing influence your artwork?
Growing up surrounded by micro gardens of housing blocks in Kaunas, playing hide and seek in the nearby forest and spending summer weekends at grandma’s community garden definitely contributed to my sympathy to nature’s wonders.
What does your creative space feel like?
My creative space is never perfect, always lacks something. Therefore, in my artworks I naturally create my desired, imaginary universe. After all, the most important thing for me is to feel safe and calm when I'm creating and that lies within.
Do you prefer working solo or in a collaboration?
I would say 50/50, but more and more I am shifting to a direction of collaboration, because I find artist life too lonely.
What are you currently working on?
I'm mostly working on the practice-led PhD artistic research project “Grammar of Lichen”, but all my artworks naturally becomes a part of it. The recent contribution to the Venice Architecture biennale for Children’s Forest pavilion and the design of a trophy for the National Architecture Awards in Lithuania are all influenced by lichen research.

Being in that perfect flow moment while playing, experimenting and getting lost in the natural or digital forest.
